چکیده

Measurement of the extragalactic background (EGBR) of diffuse gammarays is perhaps one of the most challenging tasks for future gammaray observatories, such as GLAST. This is because any determination will depend on accurate subtraction of the galactic diffuse and celestial foregrounds, as well as point sources. However, the EGBR is likely to contain very rich information about the high energy-gamma ray sources of the Universe at cosmological distances. We focus on the ability of GLAST to detect a signal from dark matter in the EGBR. We present sensitivities for generic thermal WIMPs and the Inert Higgs Doublet Model. Also we discuss the various aspects of astrophysics and particle physics that determines the shape and strength of the signal, such as dark matter halo properties and different dark matter candidates. Other possible sources to the EGBR are also discussed, such as unresolved AGNs, and viewed as backgrounds.

Finding Dark Matter with GLAST: A discussion of “GLAST and Dark Matter Substructure in the Milky Way” (Kuhlen et al)

The work discussed in this paper is by Kuhlen et al. It was presented at the First GLAST Symposium, held in Stanford, California on 5-8 February 2007. The authors wanted to determine the feasibility of detecting substructure in the galactic dark matter signature using GLAST (Gamma-Ray Large Area Space Telescope) after it launches in June 2008. To frame their question more precisely, the authors...

Dark Matter Searches with GLAST

Indirect detection of particle dark matter relies upon pair annihilation of Weakly Interaction Massive Particles (WIMPs), which is complementary to the well known techniques of direct detection (WIMP-nucleus scattering) and collider production (WIMP pair production). Pair annihilation of WIMPs results in the production of gamma-rays, neutrinos, and anti-matter. Of the various experiments sensit...

Dark Matter Searches with GLAST

The Gamma-Ray Large Area Space Telescope (GLAST), scheduled to be launched in fall 2007, is the next generation satellite for high-energy gamma-ray astronomy. The Large Area Telescope (LAT), GLAST main instrument, with a wide field of view (> 2 sr), a large effective area (> 8000 cm at 1 GeV) and 20 MeV 300 GeV energy range, will provide excellent high energy gamma-ray observations for Dark Mat...

E–WIMPs 1

Extremely weakly interacting massive particles (E–WIMPs) are intriguing candidates for cold dark matter in the Universe. We review two well motivated E–WIMPs, an axino and a gravitino, and point out their cosmological and phenomenological similarities and differences, the latter of which may allow one to distinguishing them in LHC searches for supersymmetry.

Effect of SUSY-QCD corrections to neutralino annihilation on the cold dark matter relic density in the Higgs funnel

We present a complete calculation of the QCD and SUSY-QCD corrections to neutralino pair annihilation into bottom quark-antiquark pairs through exchange of a pseudoscalar Higgs boson, which is the dominant process in the cosmological A-funnel region of the mSUGRA model. We present numerical predictions for the annihilation cross section and discuss the influence of the correction terms on the c...
